What is a nickel-metal hydride battery?
Nickel-metal hydride batteries have about twice the energy density of NiCd (nickel-cadmium) batteries. In addition, the batteries have a longer life and, thanks to the production principle, the memory effect is almost eliminated. However, the key advantage – and unique selling point – of these batteries is their extremely low self-discharge rate of only 2%. In addition, as no toxic cadmium is used in rechargeable NiMH batteries, they are considerably less harmful to the environment. The batteries are typically used for a variety of remote control units and power tools.
